Aslan's Mediterranean Grill: Reviews & Ratings
My wife and I are familiar with very good Lebanese food, found in many restaurants around Dearborn MI, so we were surprised to find such great food in Chester. The couple that own the place bring a rich food heritage, one being Jordanian and the other Turkish. Before saying anything else, I must recommend the rice pudding (we ate one in the restaurant and took another back to the hotel). We stayed in the area for three nights and the first night we ate at Aslan's. I had the beef shawarma plate and my wife had a chicken shawarma wrap. Neither of us could eat much more than half of those delicious meals. The spices in which the rib-eye was marinated were very tasty and if I could I would have devoured the lot, but I couldn't. The humus was excellent. Even though we had intended on eating elsewhere for our second night, we went back to Aslan's. The Greek salad with a skewer of BBQ's ribeye was immense and very good. I should also mention that there is a very interesting (in a nice way) salad of blended red cabbage, beets, and garlic. Enjoy!
So this place was amazing and authentic! The folks here come from Turkey, and the spices and food reflect that. I decided on the chicken shawarma plate and it was sooo good! The spices here was different than the Shawarma plate in Chico at Ali Babba's (which is Jordanian flavored cuisine). Just note if you are not use to these particular spices, your GI tract might let you know, but only because it is unfamiliar. Yucel was very friendly and gave me authentic Turkish tea on the house. I did not have the heart to tell him I do not like tea, so I took it home to the 16 year old, and he liked it. Santos did a very good job cooking the dish and I am still thinking about it. I also had some of the baklava, and it was good as well and perhaps slightly on the high side in price. The atmosphere is not "cozy" as in a cabin feeling, but airy and open as if on the Mediterranean Sea. I actually felt like I was in another part of the world. So I highly recommend this place.
What a lovely place with such a friendly people and amazing good tasting food. Do yourself a favor and come in. The food was soooo good and fresh, we got some for to go.
Excellent!! Best Mediterranean food I've had in ages!! We came here for the first time as a group of 5 (2are vegetarian, 3 are not) and everyone absolutely loved it. We sat on the patio (place has a casual cafe feel) and had the baba ghanoush, cheese borek, kisir (Turkish tabbouleh), two falafel plates, garlic fries, and two kunafeh (dessert). Everything was absolutely fantastic! Extremely fresh and delicious, and nothing is boring or phoned-in. Even the garlic fries had a little spice, and even the tszasiki-like cucumber sauce that came with with the cheese borek was awesome. Our favorite was the kisir (highly highly recommend to go with the falafel plate); vivid flavor, SO good! The kunafeh dessert was absolutely delightful: savory-sweet with Honey, cheese, pistachio, and some kind of magic. It takes 15min to prepare so make sure to let them know ahead (we ordered it ahead when we ordered our mains). Other reviewers have commented on the owners, but I just have to add: what lovely people. Helpful, patient, welcoming, and kind. We had a nice time chatting and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. My brother is a local and says he's found his new favorite restaurant.
Unique Turkish dishes served here - we have eaten a lot of Mediterranean food in various states and countries, and had never tried Ali Nazik (grilled eggplant dip with meat and pepper oil) or Kisir (Turkish tabouleh with spicy dressing served with lettuce leaves) before. Portions are generous and service was fast. We wished we had tried more of the appetizers and would easily return if around the Lassen area again!
This place is the real deal. So authentic and tasty. Service and food both 5 stars. Definitely the best Kisir (Turkish Tabouleh) I've ever had. Humus and naan bread were excellent as were the chicken kebabs. I would never have expected this in Chester, yet here it is. We will be back.
Hidden Gem! Best Mediterranean restaurant i have ever been to. Small Family owned restaurant. Food is always fresh and delicious.
Wonderful, tasty food! We had the kabob appetizer and a chicken shawarma plate. i’m so glad that Chester is starting to get more delicious, varied cuisine. We will be back.
